	The creation of War Memorials in the UK provided a focus for the national grief. 	The Midgley & Luddenden War Memorial (also known as a Cenotaph, empty Tomb) lies between the Lord Nelson Inn and St. Mary's Church. 			The Memorial Committee discussed and selected the form of the memorial, a cross of Iona or Celtic cross, an ancient Christian symbol of a cross with a halo of light intersecting it.

			And here’s the flyer that they printed asking for donations.

			The estimated cost of the project was £1,300 to be raised by public subscription.
