This is the datestone above the entrance door to The Lord Nelson Inn. This isn't very easy to photograph as there is a modern light fitting covering part of the stone. This image has been altered to remove the offending light fitting.

Inscription on a Stone Lintel from when The Warley Soke Cornmill was refurbished by Henry and Jane Murgatroyd in 1633.

Plaque dedicated to William Patchett (1791- 1868) William was a Joiner and was an enumerator in the 1861 census, a job taken over by his son Henry Patchett (landlord of The Murgatroyd Arms) in the 1871 census.
The horse trough which is at the bottom of Stocks Lane, adjacent to the Murgatroyd Arms was originally fed from a spring in the field behind it. The water supply is now blocked and the trough itself is cracked so no longer holds water.
An inscription in 58 High Street (the old Post Office) This property was bought in auction in 1854 by John Bartholomew Hall, sold at auction in 1854 by Hartley and John Murgatroyd. The property had probably been in the possession of the Murgatroyd family since the 1600's. I M 1699 probably refers to either John or James Murgatroyd, both were sons of Henry (who died in 1699)and Jane who owned the adjacent Cornmill..
